Many Iowa communities and counties have long had to operate with outdated floodplain maps – or none at all. The DNR, along with the Iowa Flood Center and other partners, is beginning a statewide effort to create comprehensive, accurate floodplain work maps. These work maps, while not able to be used for flood insurance purposes, will help Iowans know if their property is at risk from flooding and can assist local officials to establish zoning, flood-proof critical infrastructure and determine emergency response.
The DNR is holding six meetings across the state to discuss the sequence for mapping counties over the next four years. Please join us at one of the following meetings (listed alphabetically by city):
